Don’t Stall When Jesus Calls  By Pastor Bo (January 2019) “And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him” (Luke 5:11, ESV). “And leaving everything, he rose and followed him” (Luke 5:28, ESV). These passages pertain to Jesus calling His first disciples.  What grabbed me was the fact that the men didn’t stall when responding to His call.  They never hesitated.  They left everything–dropped what they were doing–to follow Jesus! Following Jesus requires sacrificial living.  As followers of Christ, we cannot allow the world to conform us.  We must die to self every day; humbly turn to God; and allow Him to renew & transform us.  Doing so keeps us from falling prey to “the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life (1 John 2:15-16). We all need to evaluate our walk with Christ.  Questions to ponder:

  • Is your walk with Christ consistent?
  • Is your walk with Christ sincere?
  • Are you walking with Him at all?
  • Are you allowing God (His Word) to transform and renew you daily or do other things appeal to your appetite?
  • Are you willing to follow Jesus without hesitation?

I want to challenge you to evaluate your walk with Christ.  For the believer, are you comfortable in your walk with Christ?  Is Jesus calling you to “up” your walk with Him?  Maybe you’re reading this and you don’t have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ?  Can you hear Jesus calling you to follow Him? As you evaluate your walk with Christ, remember not to stall when responding to His call.  Jesus is calling.  How will you respond?
